To learn if your home address is in a zone that requires a building permit, you can use the council’s online mapping tool. Enter your complete address and the tool will provide the necessary property information, including a downloadable Planning Property Report that indicates the address’s zone.

Another thing worth noting is that a fencing project that requires a building permit also likely requires a Report and Consent. Fencing projects must have this document if they don’t meet the provisions under Part 5 of the Building Regulations 2018. The costs of a Report and Consent and a building permit are calculated separately.
