Retaining walls less than a metre high are exempt. However, retaining walls that exceed the height limit or are part of a larger project (regardless of height) must have a permit.
The application process can be done by mail or via eHume (account required). The cost starts at AUD$900 or 0.8% of the fencing project’s cost, whichever is higher.
