Fence Post in Australia
Fence posts are literally the pillars that hold the entire fence together, whether it’s a picket or aluminium fence. Even the longest fence in the world, the 5,600-plus km Dingo Fence, has posts running every few metres or so to be able to do its job. Without them, a fence is prone to being knocked over by the weather or simply leaning on it.
Our team of fencing experts can’t stress enough the importance of setting up robust fence posts. For starters, any fencing project starts by placing them at the correct positions and ensuring the correct distance between each other. If all that sounds like rocket science to you, it’s a sign that such a task should be left to the pros.
Fortunately, when you get your fence from Grays Fences & Gates, we’ll take care of every small detail. That includes erecting the fencing posts on solid foundations. Don’t hesitate to contact us for a free project estimate.

Our Wide Variety of Fence Post Types
Your choice of type of fence post depends on the type of fence you go for. For example, if you choose a timber fence, we highly recommend getting a timber fence post. There are a few exceptions, but it pays to talk to a professional for that.
Timber Fence Posts
These posts are highly popular among our clients for several reasons. For starters, it’s the most affordable of our range of fencing posts and fits well with the proper picket or wooden fence material. The timber we use is kiln-dried and pressure-treated to boost its protection against pests and weather.
We offer treated pine and hardwood fence posts (selected species only). See right for the specs.

Timber posts can be spaced out between 2.0 and 6.0 metres, depending on the type of wooden fence to be installed.
Steel Fence Posts
For steel-based fences like tubular steel or weldmesh, we employ steel fence posts to hold the fencing system steady. Similar to said fences, these posts are made out of 100% Australian steel and galvanised for enhanced protection against corrosion by the elements. As for the colour, we employ powder coating from the Dulux or Interpon colour line, whichever you prefer

Aluminium Fence Posts
Maintaining fences close to the coast can be challenging, but that’s what our quality aluminium fence posts are for. Designed for use with our aluminium fencing option, these posts are inherently resistant to the salty air that can normally corrode steel. Another advantage is that they benefit from aluminium’s lightweight properties.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many posts does my fence need?
The average distance between fence posts is between 1.8 and 2.4 metres. Don’t worry about crunching the numbers, though; we take this into account based on factors like budget and fencing choice.
How can I know how many posts I need?
To get a rough estimate, measure how long your fence will need and divide the total by your desired gap between posts. If you want a more robust fence, you’ll need shorter gaps, but that’ll increase costs. On the other hand, longer gaps are cheaper but increase the fence’s risk of collapsing.
Do you offer fence post capitals?
Yes, our fence posts already come with default flat fence post capitals. If you want more intricate designs, we can create one by request.
