In most cases, a requirement for Report and Consent may accompany that for a building permit. The council may provide this if a non-compliant fence:
- Takes into account prevailing heights, setbacks and nearby existing fence designs
- The lot’s slope and existing retaining walls or fences lower the effective height
- Will be designed to minimise noise intrusion into the property
- Won’t disrupt the streetscape or view of the urban surroundings
- Is consistent with relevant neighbourhood character and policy
