Fencing – Hobsons Bay

A building permit is warranted for fences that exceed:

1.5 metres for front fencing (subject to covenants and pedestrian safety)
2.0 metres for front fencing facing a declared road
2.0 metres for any fence with a 3.0-metre setback from the street boundary
1.0 metres for corner fencing within 9.0 metres of a corner or intersection
1.2 metres for a brick fence
1.5 metres for a non-brick fence and within 3.0 metres of a street boundary
2.0 metres for any type of fencing

In addition, Community Local Law mandates that no side fence higher than 1.2 metres should be maintained if it’s within 4 metres of a street alignment and next to a driveway.
